Mirror Lake, UT

Before I get to Mirror Lake something needs to be said for google maps and the route in which we took there.

When Google said turn right, like so many other times, I turned right. Maybe it was my fault for assuming Google didn’t use forest service OHV usage roads in their directions. The only thing more difficult than continuing forward would be to try and turn around.

Maybe it was my fault for assuming Google maps wouldn’t bring me to a road where sheep are asleep in the middle of it.

Regardless, that seven miles was both the sketchiest and most gorgeous “road” the bus ever ventured down. The sheep were so random.

It took nearly an hour to complete the seven mile connector through the Wasatch Range, during that time I found some incredible free camping and grew the confidence to return to this perfect solitude in future years. The road was washed out in many places but with no other option, going slow turned out to be a worthy and rewarding adventure. For that hour I was clenched hoping that no tires pop. Otherwise we might have to ride one of the sheep out of here.

Mirror Lake is the dream campground nestled high in the Mountains of Utah. The crystal clear waters allow for the reflection that named it. Fisherman are able to cast and watch the dozens of trout investigate and ignore their lures. The water and air felt a bit too cold for swimming and so we hiked, walking around the lake with our binoculars on the lookout for mountain goats. The kids played with monster trucks while we read, we all play some soccer and catch, then at night we sat around the fire and Everest told scary stories and we sang songs with the Ukulele.

maybe Google maps needs to have an icon on the map for goats, just like it does for accidents or police
